Delivery can be in classrooms or via radio, television, internet, correspondence or at home. Does not include adult education as defined in the continuing education group, or child day-care activities.

General Secondary Education

This class covers subject-oriented general education that lays the foundation for lifelong learning and prepares students for further study. Covers both the first stage of secondary education corresponding to the period of compulsory schooling, and the second stage giving access to higher education without subject prerequisites. Also includes special education for students with special needs at this level. Delivery can be in classrooms or via radio, television, internet, correspondence or at home. Does not include adult education as defined in the continuing education group.

Technical and Vocational Secondary Education

This class covers education emphasising subject specialisation and instruction in both theoretical and practical skills associated with present or prospective employment, below the level of higher education. Covers preparation for a general field of employment through to specific job training, including instruction for tourist guides, chefs, hoteliers and restaurateurs, cosmetology and barber schools, computer repair training, and driving schools for occupational drivers such as truck, bus and coach drivers. Also includes special education for students with special needs at this level. Delivery may be in training facilities, the workplace, the home, or via correspondence, television or internet. Does not include post-secondary and university-level technical education, adult education as defined in the continuing education group, performing arts instruction for recreation or hobby, or driving schools not intended for occupational drivers.

Higher Education

This class covers post-secondary non-tertiary and tertiary education, including granting of degrees at baccalaureate, graduate and post-graduate level, with admission requiring at least a high school diploma or equivalent. Covers the first stage of tertiary education not leading to an advanced research qualification and the second stage leading to an advanced research qualification. Also includes performing arts schools providing higher education. Delivery can be in classrooms or via radio, television, internet or correspondence. Does not include adult education as defined in the continuing education group.

Sports and Recreation Education

This class covers formally organised instruction in athletic activities to groups or individuals, including instruction camps and overnight and day sports camps. Covers sports instruction in baseball, basketball, cricket, football and similar sports; gymnastics; swimming; martial arts; horse riding; cheerleading; card game instruction such as bridge; and yoga. Cultural Education

This class covers formally organised instruction in the arts, drama and music, mainly for hobby, recreational or self-development purposes. Instruction does not lead to a professional diploma, baccalaureate or graduate degree. This class covers instruction and specialised training, generally for adults, that is not comparable to general education and does not lead to a high school diploma, baccalaureate or graduate degree.
